Born August 24, 1903 in Palmersville Tennessee he came to Arizona in 1920 from Wichita Falls Texas. Survived by wife Vera two sons Vincent Jr. of Flagstaff and Marshall Ethiopia a daughter Betty Ruth Converse Prescott two sisters Iyma Johnson Vera Dyer Camp Verde five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation tonight 9 to 9 at the mortuary. Memorials to Respiratory Disease Foundation requested.

Patrolmen Newell L. Lewis and James Roberts found Donald Stringfield with severe injuries in a Pine hotel room after he said two men beat him in a nearby bar. Witnesses identified Robert Yazzie and Tyrone Austin as the attackers. charges of aggravated assault will be filed.
Turley 83 of Chino Valley dies Saturday in Hawthorne New. Services at 1 pm Thursday in Chino Valley LDS Church. Burial in Chino Valley Cemetery. Survivors include wife Ha and four sons Sheldon Blair Ney Gerald, plus sisters and brothers, 19 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Friends may call Thursday noon to 1 pm in the Mer Society Room of the church memory chapel.
AIM members faces bond motions postponed after a preliminary hearing. Judge Joseph Garcia postponed ruling until after Tuesday and kept bonds at 20000 for six men and 30000 for one, as deputies returned the group in a line to jail. Court heard testimony from Stephen Udall and Michael Flournoy amid defense concerns over counsel and indigency procedures surrounding Kitty Hadley service plans.
A 17 year old Prescott male, Glenn D Hoover, was wounded in the left arm by a homeowner during a burglary attempt at a house in east Flagstaff. Hoover was arrested at the hospital on burglary charges after being driven to Flagstaff Community Hospital for treatment.
County supervisors approve a cinder extraction operation on a small cinder hill by Merriam Crater after reviewing a May denial and a county attorney note that mining falls under federal law. Mesa Pre-Cast, Mesa, disputes county limits to the project while Mesa ProCast appeals the denial and questions county authority. The board seeks a legal opinion from the county attorney before acting.
REYKJAVIK Iceland AP The world championship began without Bobby Fischer as he arrived seven minutes after Boris Spassky made the first move. Spassky played on the dot at 5 pm and waited a moment before advancing his queen's pawn. Referee Lothar Schmid started the clock and the match began with Fischer still arriving.
A short three evening sign language course for the deaf starts July 17 at the Institute for Human Development of Northern Arizona University. James L Cobb 56 of Ajo and previously in Tucson and Flagstaff died Sunday in a Phoenix hospital. Graveside rites will be at Greenwood Cemetery Phoenix at 3 p.m. Wednesday. City Council unanimously approves rezoning of two parcels from RM to C3 for a tourist oriented commercial area south of Clay Avenue between Blackbird Roost and Malpais Lane while north of Highway 66 near Playship Interchange also rezoned to a tourist oriented commercial use. Setback rules for RT zone revised to allow zero front yard and ten foot rear yard setbacks. Council also tabled a discussion on street standards pending developer responses.
The city council approved a hydrology manual after a year of work and plans to draft it into ordinance form soon. Dr. Marvin Murray and Ed Voelker cited Arizona Highway Department guidelines and predicted the tool will standardize drainage estimates, saving money over time. Estimated preparation cost is about $5,000, with potential future savings from reduced property damage. The meeting also deferred a Civil Air Patrol trailer and office space request at Pulliam Field and delayed votes on slim tole exploration site recommendations from John Carollo Engineers and the Baxter Use and Utilization Commission.
City Engineer Ed Voelker studied an ordinance requiring developers to post a 1 percent deposit on total job costs with refunds later.
