The Flagstaff district PTA, led by Mrs Tei Lockwood for President Mrs Reet Kelly, writes to Orpheum manager Bi Rawlings praising wholesome films. They hope cinema attendance helps students value family entertainment. Completeness in advertising is stressed as vital.
The seven year old Michael Pena, son of Mr and Mrs Rocer Pena of Flagstaff, drowned at Oak Creek Rock Crossing during a swimming outing. The week end saw five Arizona drownings including Thomas Guadet 16 of Laveen at Canyon Lake. Local crashes and a fire in Tucson area claimed additional lives and injuries.
The United States first attempt to launch a missile alarm patch into orbit failed. A 96 foot projectile did not lift from its pad at Point Arguello California. A large fire erupted at ignition followed by heavy black smoke.
City crews in Flagstaff begin drilling a pilot hole about 150 yards from Lake Mary Road to test water potential in the Lake Mary fault area. Driller Earl White reports initial malapai rock and plans a 1,200 foot pilot, progressing with a 10 inch hole, then expanded to 24 inches for casing and testing. The cable tool rig, purchased from Altona Pulp and Paper, is expected to reach depth in 15 to 18 days with optimism of a viable water source.
The Motor Vehicle Division of the State Highway Department will hold drivers license checks in the agstatt area on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Division Director Bart O'Clair will be in Flagstatt from Phoenix for the checks, which involve roadblocks at strategic locations to verify state motorists licenses.
