J C Penney to Build New Flagstaff Store at Birch Leroux
Plans for a two story J C Penney Co store plus a roof parking structure at the southeast corner of Birch and Leroux in Flagstaff were announced by Penney manager Guy H. Dean and Ted Babbitt of Babbitt Brothers Trading Co. The building will total about 27 000 square feet on the lower and basement floors with parking for 7 cars and 47 atop the roof. Architect John Schotanus designs a store with expanded lines, color coded departments, wide aisles, high ceilings, and fluorescent lighting to present a complete assortment for easy shopping plus future expansion potential. The partners say the project boosts downtown Flagstaff and Arizona business and will attract Penney customers to the area.

A 26 year old Peach Springs Indian man died in a head on collision on U S 66 west of Peach Springs.
