The Arizona Academy of Science lays plans for the annual meeting in Tucson with sessions at Cotton Research Center in Phoenix. Dr. Robert C. Euler of Flagstaff reported the program, with section chairs to submit paper titles and abstracts by February 15 and papers to be read at Tucson meetings.
PHOENIX Senate will introduce a bill to establish a joint House Senate study committee to draft a tax equalization bill. Sen Ray Thompson D Yuma and Sen Charles Golf Pinal say the group will be funded by a modest appropriation around 13 dollars, focusing on reports from other Western states with similar issues. BISBEE A rabid dog bite fatally injured Cananea Sonora police official Lt Gregorio Guerrero Coronado who died from wounds after exposure in late November and delayed inoculations.
Stage personalities and performances helped refugees cope as they waited for settlement. Carlos de Miguel, the first passenger cleared by immigration and health authorities, recalled life in Cuba as impossible. He traveled with his wife and three children aged 4, 11, and 5, who were given suckers after vaccinations.
Scout Magazine now appears in Braille as a new edition for blind boys. Scout Executive Von Kimpall of the Grand Canyon Council, BSA, cited cooperative work with the Library of Congress and Clovernook Press of Cincinnati to make the Braille edition possible.
A blaze ripped through the Merrill family house, with fifteen volunteer firefighters arriving and extinguishing the fire by 8:50 am. The Merrills lost all belongings and their dog perished. Myrtle Paterson opened her Beaver Street boarding house to shelter them and started a fund, with initial 45 donation, while the Daily Sun will collect contributions. The fire began at the front of the house, front room gutted, and fire breached the north side windows. The Merrills were treated at Flagstaff Hospital after the shock of the event.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. in Ganlny and Sons Chapel for Robert Har vis Tamnes, 25, killed in an automobile accident Wednesday in Oak Creek Canyon. Burial will follow in local Veterans Cemetery. Survivors include parents Col. and Mrs. Oscar Barnes of Ko Tea, wife Margaret, a son and daughter, two sisters in Flagstaff and Aberdeen, Md., a brother in Flagstaff, and a grandmother in Ada, Minn. Various veteran and fraternal group pallbearers and honoraries will participate.

In a village near Indore, four teen upper caste individuals were sentenced to death and 21 others to life imprisonment for rioting against untouchables who attempted to worship at a temple last September 4. Four untouchables were killed and 18 injured.
Senate President Clarence Carpenter supports an intelligent approach to an equalization bill. He scheduled an 8:30 a.m. Rules Committee meeting for Monday to move the measure to the Senate floor for a final vote. Several House members have prepared similar bills and would resend theirs. No pickup.
Flagstaff residents are invited to ASC for an organizational meeting on February 6 in Room 137, business administration building. Dr. Virgil Gillenwater says class topics and nights will be decided then, with ten students needed per class and sessions twice weekly for ten weeks at a $12.50 fee per course.
Platt Cline publisher of The Arizona Daily Sun at Firestaff was named 1963 chairman of the Arizona Associated Press News Study Committee. The appointment was made by Harry Montgomery president of the Arizona AP organization and assistant publisher of The Arizona Republic and The Phoenix Gazette. The committee includes editors from AP member newspapers and aims to monitor AP coverage of state news and aid accuracy and speed in reporting. Cline succeeds George Rosenberg, managing editor of the Tyce son Daily Citizen.
Selva a 50 year old, formerly of Akron Ohio, was found dead in a local motel on Wednesday morning. She was discovered hanging from the shower water pipes. She had lived here about a year and had been in ill health for some time. She was formerly employed as a nurse.

An Allegheny crash drove a passing car into a gas meter at a Phoenix cafe causing a large explosion. Three firefighters sustained serious burns while fighting the blaze and were hospitalized. Investigators probed the cause and the extent of the damage to the cafe and nearby structures.
Washington The mineral Bureau announced approval of a lease with El Faso Natural Gas Co to strip mine 67 percent acres of the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. The plan aims to use coal at a plant on the reservation to convert coal into motor fuel with projected Navajo employment if feasible.
