Local historian Metzger leads Pioneer Museum revival
Flagstaff residents recall Metzger’s 11 years of work transforming the former Coconino County Hospital for Indigents into the Pioneer Museum. Since 1963 as director, he secured funds and curated exhibits including Hochdorffer and Hall of Fame rooms, six-era displays, and a room marking the facility’s history as the Poor Farm.

Police Investigate Report Plan to Ban Of Alleged Kidnap
Medical tests are in progress to determine if a 20 year old transient waitress was raped by three men who allegedly kidnapped her as she left her motel for work Wednesday night. Det. Sgt. Gilbert Castro said initial tests did not indicate rape but the victim insists she was forced to ride around in a pickup with the men, beaten, and assaulted by at least one of them. Police first responded to her motel after she called the station. She was taken to Flagstaff Community Hospital for tests and later released to her motel. The victim could not provide a clear description of the suspects.

City readies final payment for Flagstaff rink project
City Comptroller Donald E. Wilson says about $312,000 has been spent on construction and preparation of the new rink with roughly 3100 thousand to be recovered from the U S Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. The BOR funds are committed and only paperwork remains to release the money. The rink is Flagstaff’s most expensive recreation facility and the first municipally owned ice rink in the state, second only to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum rink in size.
