Coast Guard Seizes Soviet Vessels Near Alaska
In a four hour chase through ice choked waters the US Coast Guard boarded and seized two Soviet ships the Lamut flagship of a factory fleet and the Kalyvan near St Matthew Island west of Alaska. The Lamut tried to escape crossing the bow with warning shots not fired. No injuries reported and a court action was anticipated. The Soviet crews were to be taken to Adak Naval Station in the Aleutians. The incident follows other recent tensions but officials say normal relations are the aim.

Page High School Pact Approved For 1.4 Million Contract
County Supervisors approved a bare bones contract for Page High School projects totaling 1.4 million dollars for 23 classrooms and a combined gymnasium auditorium. Hart Building Marts of Phoenix won the bid after adjustments reduced scope and projected costs. A federal grant of 446 184 dollars could cover much of the remaining shortfall with work aimed to start by late January 1970 and to deliver new classrooms by early 1973 to handle Navajo Generating Station related growth.
