FT McPhereson Ga AP Soldiers trialed for assault with intent to murder My Lai villagers during 1988 infantry operation. Six officer jurors found Carlos Hotto not guilty after two hours deliberation. His wife Brenda wept as Hotto embraced his lawyers and family expressed relief.
Washington AP reports Senator Robert J. Dole asserts he will be the boss under the new three way GOP leadership arrangement. The GOP National Committee ratifies Dole today as chairman, following President Nixon's recommendation. He succeeds Reginald Rogers Morton.
Parra 20 formerly of 5025 San Francisco delayed his Superior Court jury trial after grand theft charges involving 197 dollars taken April 29 from the Monte Vista Hotel front desk. A $1,000 bond posted through a bond company was confiscated as a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. Jury panel of six was sent home. Court officers say Parra’s absence triggered the bench warrant and bond forfeiture.
Visiting on the set of The Bravos near Ft. Bravo north of Flagstaff is discouraged unless invited. Universal Studios asks prospective visitors to obtain a pass, with arrangements through James M. Fotter of Potter Machinery or Joe Cavaller of Universal Studios. Filming runs until about Jan 21.
Coconino County property owners may file petitions of review with the County Assessor's Office through March 15. Those with assessed valuation increases over 21,000 will receive mail notice. Exemption filings for widows veterans and certain non profits are due by February 26. Applications required.
New York AP reports a prime rate cut lifted stocks in active trading. By noon the Dow stood at 646.80, up 3.49, with advances outpacing declines 3 to 1 on the NYSE. The tape ran two minutes late as prices showed broad gains across major issues and key names including General Motors, Ford, DuPont, Anaconda, Penn Central, and Eastman Kodak.
Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Soviet President Nikolai Podgorny opened the Aswan High Dam. The ceremony featured a joint ribbon cut and a marble plaque honoring Gamal Abdel Nasser. The project, built with Soviet aid, aims to assure irrigation for Egyptian farmers.

Williams Hospital Association holds its annual meeting Monday at 8 p.m. in the High School library. Board terms for Fd Payne Froie Apodaca and Joan Robinette expire. Roy Killinsworth Sam McConnell HL Benham and Dave Pouquette remain. Pouquette and Apodaca sit on the city council. voting rights apply to members who joined 30 days before the January 18 election.
Chet Arnold former Flagstaff resident named administrator of Williams Hospital taking over January 1. He previously ran Kimball General Hospital for eight years and praised the local board medical staff and facilities. Arnold, his wife Marlene, and their three sons plan to move here. he succeeds Cecil Peart who came from Bishop, California last May.
The Daily SUN earned an award at the convention session with SUN President Pratt Ht. Cline and William Missii present to accept. The Arizona Republic of Phoenix received the Community Service Award for daily newspapers over 30,000 circulations, while The Casa Grande Dispatch won the weekly category.
