Four young Tennesseans are in the Coconino County jail charged with improper registration of a motor vehicle and being parties to a crime after a Highway Patrol stop. Herman B. Forter, 23, Oliver Springs, Tenn., faces improper registration. Sammy B. Thacker, 21, and Glen E. Buck, 30, both of Oliver Springs. Tammy Lanette Phillips, 22, Clinton, Tenn., are held as parties to a crime. Patrol arrested them at 3:45 am and took them to Flagstaff Justice of the Peace Court for custody.
Cooled from page one, three youths died when their vehicle was mangled after being ejected. One occupant, a Tucker boy, had five traffic citations and a $15 fine receipt. In east Tucson, Henry A. Merchant, 71, was killed in a separate crash. his wife and three others escaped serious injury. Driver Robert K E Moore, 2 years old in Moore, was cited for failure to yield. another driver Timalea A. Santegan, 37, cited for driving while intoxicated. A Phoenix man, Bert U M Largent, 82, was killed crossing a northeast intersection. the driver was not cited. Earlier, Mullly B. Rechel, 76, of Prescott, died after her car crossed the center line on US 6 66 near Yuers, colliding with a semitrailer driven by Billie Lee Allen, 32, of Irving, Texas. Investigators said Allen tried to avoid the head-on collision as the car struck the trailer.
Vatican officials confirm Soviet Premier Khrushchev and Pope John XXIII exchanged New Year greetings. The letter from Khrushchev wished the pontiff well and the pope replied in Latin. Text of the messages was not released.
W. Wade Head announces the appointment of Eugene Booher as development specialist for the Hopi Tribe. Booher, from Ponca City Oklahoma, will be based at Reams Canyon Arizona and will assist the tribe in economic development of natural resources, commercial opportunities, and new industries on or near the reservation. Additional development specialists will be stationed at Sacaton Sells San Carlos Colorado River Agency Parker and Shiwart Now and FL Dicheshe Utah.
In Phoenix AP report Bolly Jean Smithey 12 was charged with first degree murder for the strangulation of a one month old left in her care Sandra Gerberick died Tuesday authorities said a silk stocking was found in the child's hand Smithey recalled taking the infant to bed but could not remember details The babysitter was arrested in Tucson the same day the child was found dead Erma Gerberick said she hired Smithey to live in and care for the four children

Thirty eleventh grade students from Arizona high schools will attend with costs shared. NSF covers books and tuition while students receive travel stipends. Dr. Butchart announced brochures, applications, and deadlines for counselor distribution.
A Flagstaff 18 year old high school student was arrested by police after a Mercury collided with a parked pickup. Police chief William Fpperson said the driver, identified as Duvals Town, was charged with driving and weekless driving in front of a local business.

Municipal court Judge Robert E. Jones upheld the barricading of two streets between Negro and white residential areas in southwest Atlanta.
