Man Holding held people ends in fatal sheriff action
In Haysville Kansas a man, Larry Leer, held seven people and his ex girlfriend's sister at a Wichita suburb home. Sheriff undersheriff described the decision to use sharpshooters as choosing one life over eight. Leer shot at responding officers, wounding a deputy before he was fatally shot. He was born in San Mateo New Mexico June 10 194 and retired in 1967 after 47 years with Santa Fe Railways. Survivors include two sons Raymond of Barstow California Victor of Page two daughters Lillian Sanchez and Ruth Ybarra both of Winslow 18 grandchildren eight great grandchildren and a brother Baney Candelaria of Winslow.
