Police Log Thieves Take Two Car Batteries Weeknight

Police report two parked vehicles lost batteries totaling about $90 while a truck at Jenkins Oil Storage Garage was damaged for roughly $350. Victims include Ronald Lefiel of 2112 N First and Chester Dickeson of 9 Brannen Circle. Jack A Reed of Holbrook said a truck in front of Monte Vista Hotel was broken into. A citizens band radio and two hunting knives were also taken.

The Arizona Supreme Court was to hear a petition alleging Maricopa County Atty Donald Harris biased a grand jury probe of Ken Wayman, a Prescott Journal reporter for The Arizona Republic. Guilty Plea In Fake Gold Scheme In Phoenix Case

Ramon Calles-Canizales, 46, of Mexico, pleaded guilty to inducing interstate travel to defraud in a fake gold brick scheme that bilked two victims of $20,000 each. Co defendant Hector Araiza-Amparan, 34, was acquitted. Calles faces up to 30 years and a $30,000 fine at sentencing.

Largest Sound Heard in Northland Opens Austin Pipe Organ

On Sept 12 1976 NAU unveiled the Austin pipe organ in Eldon Atdrey Memorial Auditorium a 150000 instrument hailed as the biggest in Northern Arizona and possibly the state. Organist Marilyn Mason praised its tonal power while NAU officials and community members outlined its educational aims and planned daily use by 20 to 30 students with a 75 year expected life.

California Indian Plea to Be Heard on Sandys Desert Plant

SAN DIEGO AP The California Energy Commission may rule within a month on a demand by Mission Indians to ignore a long hearing into the proposed Sandesert nuclear plant. An attorney for the Indians says hearings to date are paid. San Diego Gas & Electric needs approval for a $2.3 billion plant 14 miles southwest of Blythe. A preliminary report is due by March 21. The Indians object, saying they were not told that 500 kilowatt transmission corridors would cross or near their reservations, with two corridors extending north, west, and south toward the Mexican border.
