California Indian Plea to Be Heard on Sandys Desert Plant
SAN DIEGO AP The California Energy Commission may rule within a month on a demand by Mission Indians to ignore a long hearing into the proposed Sandesert nuclear plant. An attorney for the Indians says hearings to date are paid. San Diego Gas & Electric needs approval for a $2.3 billion plant 14 miles southwest of Blythe. A preliminary report is due by March 21. The Indians object, saying they were not told that 500 kilowatt transmission corridors would cross or near their reservations, with two corridors extending north, west, and south toward the Mexican border.
