In Denver eleven western governors endorsed a task force report to sunset multistate agencies and streamline programs. The plan consolidates three energy groups into a unified policy office, aiming to cut costs and boost accountability across Western states.
Dr. Kim Yount of Tempe has been appointed by Gov. Raul Castro to succeed Dr. Ralph Koerner of Phoenix on the State Board of Dental Examiners. Yount, 49, belongs to the Arizona State Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Western Society of Periodontology, and the American Society of Dentistry for Children. The five member board tests and licenses dental practitioners in Arizona.
John Sweeney of Straw Hat Pizza Palace invites customers to support United Way. He notes the campaign ended November 23 but says agencies still need funds. Half the proceeds from pizza sales between 5 and p.m. Wednesday go to United Way, plus a $2 per person for parties of eight or more for all you can eat pizza and salad.
Arizona Public Service may recover 2.6 million dollars from customers for Kaiparowits Power Plant costs. The Corporation Commission will decide next spring after a Feb. 28 hearing to determine if the charges are reasonable or require adjustment.
Lisagor, revered Washington reporter and PBS Washington Week regular, dies at 61 from lung and larynx cancer after rushed to Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital. He dictated a farewell message for Friday’s broadcast and wrote his last column on Cyril Vance’s secretary of state pick for Carter.
