Phoenix Voters Face Six City Council Races Today

Phoenix voters go to polls to elect six city council members from twelve candidates amid scandals in the Charter Government. Vice Mayor Margaret Hance won the mayoralty in November. Local Salvation Army In Financial Plight

The Flagstaff Salvation Army, led by Capt Francis Hagland, faces over $16,000 in debts for auto, property, taxes, and mortgages. The travelers’ assistance bureau was cut last month to save funds, though the store and donation boxes continue. Despite tight finances, the group plans Christmas baskets for 120+ families and toy distributions for about 700 children, with support from the Elks Club, United Way, and a KOAL-TV telethon. Donations are welcome via Christmas buckets and the Salvation Army office.

Groups to Sing Carols Downtown

Four Flagstaff Public Schools choruses will carol downtown Thursday night at the invitation of the Flagstaff Downtown Business Association. From Flagstaff High, Cuconine High, Flagstaff Junior High, and East Flagstaff Junior High, they perform 7 to 8 p.m. marching corners at San Francisco and Leroux, Aspen and Birch Avenues, moving clockwise along the block.

Utah Man Sentenced in 1975 Vehicular Manslaughter

Wallace Smith of Utah received a suspended sentence and 60 days in county jail from Coconino County Superior Court Judge Joyce Mangum for vehicular manslaughter in the Aug 7 1975 death of Penny DeSharts near Cedar City. Mother Pleads Innocent In Son's Gunshot Death

A 41-year-old Flagstaff woman Jacqueline Calabro entered an innocent plea in Coconino County Superior Court to first degree murder in the November 13 shooting death of her 6 year old son Martin Drumm. She was ordered held for psychiatric examination as she sat at the defense table.
