An out of control propane truck crashed into the entrance of a rest home in Electra Texas, bursting into flames and killing three elderly patients. About 33 residents were rescued. one injured. Owner Walter Rleging said the blaze spread quickly and victims perished as flames swept the single-story building in the disaster.
Nashville Tenn A Holbrook teacher was among about 420 graduates who received degrees from George Peabody College for Teachers at its commencement exercises on August 17 He is J Anthony Serio a Holbrook High School teacher who earned the M A degree in library science.

About 411 people attended the Arizona State College campus event begun in August 1925 under the American Association in Colleges for Teacher Education. Admiral Willan C. Mott spoke on Education for the Defense of Democracy and urged teachers to be trained to teach about communism. He noted seminars by the American Bar Association and proposed 25 to 30 seminars next year for teachers and social scientists.
Funeral services are set for Monday at 2 p.m. in Flagstaff Mortuary Chapel for Mrs Annie Hicks 61 who died Tuesday at Flagstaff Community Hospital Jehovah's Witnesses directing. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery. Mrs Hicks lived in Flagstaff three years with daughter Burnette Hammond. Surviving daughters Burnette Hammond Helety Davis Jessie Mae O'Daniel Ora Lee Jones Mary Lee Davis Marine Hicks sons James A Haynes Guy Johnson Clather Haynes brother Eugene Hicks.
GOP candidate Robert M. Bishop plans two coffees this Monday in the Third Congressional District. The first event is at 9:30 a.m. at Mrs. Charles Vincent’s home, 600 South Direct, followed by a 2 p.m. gathering at Mrs. R. Dial’s home, 312 Scully Second Street. Everyone is welcome.
The Sun reports record auction prices at the Coconino County Fair Livestock Auction led by grand champion lamb owned by David English of Tomp. Bob Clark won top bid over Tom Pollock at 90 cents per pound with support from Kelly Keithley and Becky Keithley. several beef and lamb lots hit new highs. Agricultural Agent Bill Breehan praises 4 H youths and notes strong future entries expected.
Mrs. Frank Granger Huntress Sr., 78, widow of the former president and publisher of the San Antonio Express and News, died Thursday. A son, Frank G. Huntress Jr., was president and publisher of the newspapers amid the Express Publishing Co. was sold recently. Mrs. Huntress was the former Katherine Johnsen of Palmyra, Missouri.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Flagstaff Mortuary for Miss Lupe Garcia aged 33 who died Friday night at Flagstaff Community Immunity Hospital. She resided at 208 Agassiz and worked at the Flagstaff Laundry.
The Arizona Radio Control Society sponsors a radio controlled model airplane show at Koch Field eight miles northeast of Flagstaff this Sunday from 1 a.m. to sundown. More than 30 planes will be exhibited with demonstrations. Admission is free. Beardsley field is home base for ARCS. About 15 top Phoenix modelers expected to attend invitatational meet. Flights limited to 50 feet altitude and half a mile from transmitters.
Four contenders vie for the Gran Jamaica queen title as three panels of judges from Flagstaff rate fashion, talent, and personality phases Sunday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church hall. Homemaking is judged opening day. Final crown awarded Sept. 1 at the Gran Jamaica Ball.
Coconino County Recorder Mrs Edna Mae Thornton announced absentee ballots for the September 1 primary are available at the County Courthouse in Flagstaff. Ballots must be voted and returned by 5 pm Friday September 7. A deputy will canvass facilities to ensure eligible voters can participate.
