Spellman denies Morse charge on public school help

Cardinal Spellman of New York rebutted a charge by Senator Morse that Catholic clergy push public schools to improve them. He stated Catholics see public schools as partners in education and stressed protecting Catholic schools. he rejected the idea of a public school monopoly.

Winslow Rites Are Set For D. W. Lorenz

Daniel W. Lorenz 57 died Sunday of a heart attack. Funeral services will be held at Desert View cemetery Wednesday at 2. Lorenz, born February 5, 1964 in Colorado, lived in Winslow before moving to California during World War III to work for the government. He returned this year and worked at Mike O’Hare’s Ranch. Survivors include a daughter in California, granddaughter Kathy Sue Graham, a brother in Loveland, Colorado, six sisters in Winslow Mason City Iowa Woodland Hills California Arcadia California and Flagstaff, and a niece in Flagstaff plus other relatives.

Rosary Service For M S Clerry Tonight In Flagstaff

Mrs Maria S Clerry a long time Flagstaff resident who died Saturday will receive a rosary tonight at the Flagstaff Mortuary. A requiem high mass will be held Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with burial at the Catholic cemetery. Born July 29 1879 in Bernalillo New Mexico she moved to Flagstaff seventy years ago. Survivors include daughters Rosa Garcia Julia Valigrros and Tatina Luna of Flagstaff sons Juan Garcia of El Paso and Nestor Garcia of Jemez Pueblo eight grandchildren eight great grandchildren a sister Teresa Lopes and four nieces nine nephews.
