The Copernicus observatory satellite, the heaviest and costliest US space telescope, was launched to study star evolution and deep space X-rays. Weighing 4,900 pounds and valued at $81.6 million, it carries six telescopes to analyze star birth and behavior and seek universe origins.
City Manager Leland C. McPherson said a feasibility report on pumping water from Soldiers Annex and Hay Lakes south of Flagstaff should be ready by early October. The plan stems from an offer by Ernest Chilson of Bar T Bar to sell 5,100 acre feet annually, with price estimates from 38 to 63 cents per 1,000 gallons.
