Arizona Labor School Opens at ASC

The eighth annual Arizona Labor School sponsored by the Arizona AFL-CIO opened classes at Arizona State College. The program runs through Friday with sessions in public speaking, political science, parliamentary procedure, labor history and philosophy, communication techniques, human relations, and structure of state and central labor bodies. Members and wives from Arizona labor organizations will participate in sessions and workshops led by leaders such as Kenon S. Broom, executive secretary of the Arizona AFL-CIO.

Second Blaze Hits Waterfront

A second major fire swept a half mile waterfront terminal and dock area in Weehawken New Jersey today destroying facilities as firefighters battled the blaze for hours. Officials said the fire followed another large New York area waterfront fire reported three days earlier. No injuries were immediately reported.

Senate confirms Davis to post as U S district judge

The Senate confirmed President Kennedy's appointment of Arthur M. Davis of Phoenix to be a U S district judge in Arizona. A native of Winnkew, Davis attended high school in Prescott and Phoenix and earned his law degree from George Washington University. He previously worked as a stenographer in Senator Hayden's Washington offices.

Dinner Tonight to fete Miss Coconino contestants

Coconino County Fair officials push preparations for the Friday through Sunday event. Flagstaff Jaycees host a Miss Coconino Contest dinner at 7:30 p.m. in the Turquoise Room, Hotel Monte Vista, featuring talent practice for entering girls. Two Killed Eight Injured In One-Car Crash Near Pings Istatt

Northland traffic tragedy leaves Stanley Rosengarten 28 and John Edward Beier 27, both Glendale residents, dead after a one car wreck on State Route 9 twelve miles south of Pings Istatt. Area Crash Claims Sixteen Lives Over Weekend

A weekend crash in Arizona raised the traffic toll to 16 with twelve more deaths than the prior year. Ganley and Sons arranged funerals for victims Rosengarten and Baies, bodies sent to New York City and Topeka. Hyos workers from System Development Corporation, tied to Luke Al Base, were en route to Flag State when the accident occurred. Eight people were injured in a three car collision a half mile north of Hyde Park on UW.

Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson returned to Kennedy with news that free world bonds were strengthened by his 36 hour trip to West Berlin. He landed at Andrews after a long flight, praised German leadership, and said US West Berlin and West Germany ties were stronger and enduring. Kennedy cut short Cape Cod weekend to receive the report on Johnsons mission.
