Arizona Birth Control Law to Be Tested by Supreme Court
Arizona's 61 year old law restricting distribution of birth control information may go to the State Supreme Court next month. Planned Parenthood Committee of Phoenix, through attorney Sheldon Attchell, appeals, joined by the American Civil Liberties Union which opposes the statute as a civil rights violation. The case traces to 1958 county orders banning birth control literature from clinics and prohibiting depletion of information by health staff. The state argues the law does not violate free speech and aims to discourage promiscuity.
