AP dispatch from Clyde New York reports twelve persons injured when cars derailed near Clyde as a New York Central passenger train traveling eastbound bound for Chicago roared along a line near a house. Freight and weather conditions unclear as investigators begin work. The accident occurred Friday near the western New York village.
Captain Teabert L Straub of Flag is set to graduate from the UBAP Bay experimental Flight Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base California. Major Richard C Lathrop notes the school produces pilot-engineers who bridge builders and pilots, with Straub formerly of Kadena Air Base Okinawa and a decorated veteran. He is married to Catherine Varicourt of Flagetti and has a son.

Arizona Public Service Co. asked the Arizona Corporation Commission to approve an average 10 percent rise in natural gas rates for more than 172000 customers. Walter Lucking, company president, said the schedule would add only a few cents a day for residential use, while commercial and industrial increases would vary by class and service. He blamed rising costs and Arizona’s rapid growth for the request, noting the last rate increase was in 1951. The utility plans to spend substantial sums in the next five years to serve new residents and growth.
Pickets at Kennecott Copper’s Ray and Hayden operations face contempt of court citations signed by Superior Judge Frank Thomas for restraining supervisory personnel from plant entry. Ray Mines Division manager A P Morris said the action aims to pressure morale as a temporary order governs the dispute. An Aug 19 appearance at Florence and a same-day hearing on making the order permanent are planned.
Valdis Avots of Flagstaff photographed an aspen on the San Francisco peaks to be the Arizona Highways cover for September. Chosen from about 400 entries, the image was captured last fall on the West slope of the Snow Bowl with a 4 by 5 Speed Graphic camera.
