Ground to Be Broken For Snowflake Mill

Southwest officials announce a Snowflake mill, costing about 40 million dollars with 22.5 million base build, will open around October 1961. About 300 construction workers expected by fall, with peak payroll around 1 million. The plant will use 260000 cords of wood annually, 60 percent from existing Southwest timber and 40 percent new wood, and will employ two 40 by 144 by 60 foot papermaking machines costing nine million. Arizona timber holdings of 6 million cords support operations. the project boosts White Mountain communities and follows a 14 million Chala Power Plant ground breaking in Joseph City for 1962 operation.

Funeral services for Gavold Bracken 63 of Flagstaff will be held at 2 pm tomorrow in the LDS Chapel Lyman. He died while on vacation in the area and is survived by four daughters four sons two brothers and three sisters. District Judge Ward Chandler ruled Thursday night that a white baby was taken from its Negro maid for medical care, not race. Edna West of San Francisco complained of kidnaping as the child, David Lee, 19 months, is in a Tyler county home. Doctors testified the child needed special care for a potential serious hernia. Government Moves Swiftly In South Civil Rights Case

The Justice Department won access to 19 voter records in Montgomery Alabama and moved to launch civil rights probes in five Southern counties. FBI seized voting and registration lists in Gwinnett County Georgia as the new investigation was announced in Washington. Atlas Nose Cone Lost After Successful Flight

Cape Canaveral reports the Atlas missile hit its target zone 5 000 miles down the Caribbean range but the nose cone carrying radiation experiments sank. Search was called off three hours after launch as the cone was deemed not valuable. The flight tested a new target zone and inertial guidance while carrying five experiments to study hazards in manned space travel.

Auto Goes Out of Control In Winslow Crash

Miss Phyllis Juancé Sextec a 26 year old commercial artist from St Louis Missouri was injured when her 1938 imported Sorgwerd overturned west of the Cottonwood Wash bridge on the outskirts of Winslow. She was conscious with minor injuries and hospitalized for overnight observation. Patrolman J F Foucher and Bill Vaughn investigated the single car accident.

Searchers Find Youth Lost In Canyon

Tucson AP report says a 14 year old boy Kurt Weilhzapfel wandered two days in the Santa Catalina Mountains before searchers located him alive. He called out I’m here and was found in the ringed canyon area by rescuers. No injuries reported.

Walter M Bryant died this morning in Flagstaff Community Hospital after a heart attack at home. Born December 12 1893 in Maplewood Indiana he lived in Flagstaff since 1936 and worked 40 years with Santa Fe Railroad as a telegrapher. Survived by wife Nesta son Tan and daughter Debora plus three grandchildren and brother Theodore Bryant. Jan Bryant and his wife are with Mrs Bryant.
