He began his term Aug 15, 1944, under Gov Osborn, and has served as visiting judges fill-in as needed due to health. The salary boost to 17,000 follows a recent initiative, raising pay from 12,500.

Highlights are popular horse racing on several dates and a large midway with automobile and boat shows. Increased 4H and home maker club activity, livestock quality, and a thriving horticulture display promise stronger participation. Preparations include expanded facilities, new livestock pens, a dedicated fair office, and urging entrants to consult the fair book and enter promptly.
Ex Williams railroad man Phillips of Prescott, about 75, retired engineer, died Monday in Los Angeles. He lived in Ash Fork after retirement, worked in Williams and Winslow for years. Friday services at 2 pm at Community Methodist Church in Williams. Rev Robert Pearson to officiate. Masonic Lodge to conduct graveside rites in Williams Cemetery.

Body in state Wednesday 7 to 8 p.m. at Gibbs Mortuary Williams.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church for Mrs. Curtis Loyd, who died Sunday morning at her home. Surviving are her husband, two daughters Angeline Mitchell and Ann Smith, two sons Sam Therry and Alvin Therry, a brother Major Florence, a sister Celestine Tubert, and three grandchildren. The Rev. W. C. Burr will officiate. burial will be in Citizens Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at A. J. Moore Funeral Home in Phoenix for Walter E. Lockwood age 74 of Phoenix father of John Lockwood of Flagstaff. He had lived in Arizona since 1944 and was born in Indianapolis Indiana. Surviving are his sons Roy and Russell of Phoenix a brother Travis and sister Mrs Jenny Patley both of Indianapolis five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. His wife Vana died in April.
