Today’s Markets from New York reports stocks falling amid speculation of another prime rate rise. The noon Dow Jones industrial average slid 10.24 to 54.63 as declines outpaced advances on the New York Stock Exchange with numerous major names trading lower.
The six town Northern Arizona Gasoline Retailers Association, with 60 dealers, adopted a six point ethics code and formed a grievance committee to enforce it. Membership costs 20 dollars to join and 10 dollars monthly dues. The group, formed after a state investigation into consumer fraud by area stations, has already addressed two minor complaints and named member stations in Flagstaff Williams Holbrook Winslow Ashfork and Seligman in Monday's Sun ad.
The article notes horses moved from Mexit into Texas and beyond with symptoms of sickness including sleepiness and restlessness. Mosquitoes are identified as the disease carrier and several agencies have sprayed habitats. Services for John Nevan Anderson will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Flagstaff Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Jerry Kally officiating. Burial follows in the Anderson family plot at Citizens Cemetery. Born January 4, 1887 in Flagstaff, he spent 36 years ranching in the Alpine area and served as Alpine postmaster from 1958 to 1964. He died Sunday in Winslow Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Evalyn, two sons, a daughter, a sister, a stepdaughter, a stepson, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Maurice Doorinsk, H. Hughes, Lynn Kirby, Earl Kirby, Kit Kirby, Tom Kirby. Flagstaff Mortuary in charge.
Two men were arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Richard Thomas of Oakland California was stopped by Patrolman Dan Dewis early this morning. Robert Gere Surat Delivery Flagstaff was arrested by Patron Chris Bavasi yesterday afternoon in City Park after stopping his car for water.
At Lowell Observatory a Phoenix ensemble presented Haydn Quartet, Joseph Perley Lewis score, and Taneyev No 3 Op 4. Lewis attended, praised for law practice and composing. Audience viewed observatory facilities and Mars shone in a clear sky after rain.

A recovery party of nine men located an unidentified woman's body in rain drenched Sycamore Canyon shortly after 3 am. Coconino County Sheriff Cecil Richardson said investigators would identify the body and determine the cause of death. The woman appeared to have been dead about 10 days or two weeks. Two NAU students, John Duncan and Douglas Kelley, reported the body late Sunday after hiking the Wilderness Area on Saturday. The search team, including county deputies and Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Unit members, faced vehicle problems and walked five miles to reach a location below Sycamore Point deep in the canyon.
The death of Mrs Henriette Scott, 40, of 60 Sherman Way, Navajo Army Depot, was ruled accidental from a drug overdose by a Flagstaff Coroner's Jury after an inquest. She was found by her husband on July 19 after returning from a 24 hour fireman shift. post mortem cited respiratory failure due to overdose with over two dozen drug bottles found at the home.
Mme Rose Palmar-Tenser, founder of Mobile Opera Bulla in 196, died Sunday in a London hospital, relatives said. She helped organize Birmingham and Shreveport, Louisiana, opera companies and contributed to the early growth of regional opera in the South.

He previously supervised student teachers at the University of Mississippi and designed a team teaching operation for high school mathematics. He earned NSF summer and university institutes in mathematics and is a Phi Delta Kappa and Elks member.
