Flagstaff hosts Verde Valley Ambassadors dinner

Flagstaff businessmen mingled with Verde Valley Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors at the Golden Star. The visiting group from Cottonwood showcased soft sell regional promotions and shared a film star and magician entertainment. The event marked the Ambassadors second trip, after Phoenix, highlighting quarterly visits to neighboring communities.

Navajo Begay Crowned Miss Indian America XVII

Norah Begay a 22 year old Navajo from Kalbe Utah was chosen Miss Indian America XVII for 1972 from 30 candidates representing 27 tribes at All-American Indian Days in Sheridan Wyoming. Her Indian name A-Teh Tsosie meaning Slim Girl. Alternate for the title was Annette Kay Parriette a Ute from Salt Lake City. First runner up Cra Manning Shoshone from Owyhee Nevada. Second runner up Agnes Merle Bille Seminole from Hollywood Florida. In Los Angeles David a 12 year old Phoenix kidney transplant patient died seven days after surgery.

Festival 1971 Quartet Presents Recital at Observatory

Flagstaff festival week features Kananda String Quartet Phoenix based recital in Observatory Auditorium followed by optional observatory viewing if skies permit Mars close conjunction with Earth recalls 75 years since Lowell founded observatory. Two Gun Town Fire Destroys Tourist Attraction Near Flagstaf

Firefighters from Winslow responded as the 32 mile east of Flagstaf site known as Two Gun Town burned to the ground Saturday night into Sunday morning. Cause undetermined, investigators work amid ruins today. Additional photos and story on page.

Team launches eight member recovery from Flagstaff

A party of eight men began from Flagstaff shortly before noon to recover the body of a woman found Saturday by two hikers near Sycamore Point in Sycamore Canyon Wilder peas Area, Coconino County. Undersheriff Clark Cote said a deputy would join several men from the Coconino Search and Rescue Unit. Two hikers identified as John Demian and Douglas Kelly, both summer students at AU, reported finding the body on Sebarday.

Mary Riordan Chambers Dies at 81 in California

Mary Riordan Chambers wife of a Flagstaff and Los Angeles businessman aged 81 died in St. Vincent's Hospital Los Angeles. Funeral rites in Flagstaff include Rosary at 8 p.m. and Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Donations to Guadalupe Altar Society requested. Survived by husband Robert L. Chambers three daughters and many grandchildren.

Youth saves drowning child at motel pool

Flagstaff police credited 10-year-old Stanley Mickelson with rescuing six-year-old Robert Nez from the bottom of a westside Ramada Inn pool. Nez, not a motel guest, was swimming with others without permission. officers noted quick mouth to mouth resuscitation until aid arrived and the child was released after observation at Flagstaff Community Hospital.
