Winslow mayor convened a special session to hear soil test results at the City Farm. City Engineer Gilpin reported tests by State Highway crews found seven feet of hard packing clay giving way to sand and water at depth, raising erosion and equipment bogging concerns. A Highway Commission decision on using the site as a mandatory borrow pit is expected soon. The council also hired Dale Hancock to manage timber treated wharfs at the Clear Creek boat area, funded originally by a 12,600 grant with 2,300 already used for repairs. Acting Supt. George J. Chambers announced 4,500 people visited Wupatki National Monument in March.
