City officials discuss replacing step increases with a range salary system for management staff. Fremont Patrolman Robert Armstrong suffered neck and back injuries when his police car was rear-ended at 37301 Fremont Boulevard near Burger Town Drive-In. The driver, LaVerne H. Strutz, 43, of 4534 Darrow Court Fremont, was arrested for felony drunk driving and held on $5,000 bail after the 30 p.m. crash. Armstrong, who had stepped from the car to remove a hazard near the Southern Pacific tracks, was later sent home after a hospital examination.
Joint funeral services for Fremont youths Christopher L Boblet and Mark W Remelius, who died in a weekend auto accident in Niles Canyon, will be held at Fremont Chapel Roses Mortuary. Boblet, a Mission San Jose High senior, lived at 41960 Via San Gabriel. Remelius, June graduate, lived at 42016 Via San Carlos. Survivors include parents, siblings, and grandparents. Burial is Cedar Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.
Principal Arthur Schnabel will introduce the year's faculty and curriculum at the Centerville Junior High P-TA meeting today at 7 30 pm in the school auditorium. Fremont PTA Council meets September 25 at 10 am at Fremont Community Center with Dr. William Bett as guest speaker on the State of School Union. Council registration starts at 9 am.

John C. Corbett, 38, charged with misdemeanor manslaughter in the Nimitz Freeway crash that killed Newark Sgt. Jack Johnson and seriously injured Mildred Jackson, pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to stand trial in Fremont Municipal Court on November 6 with Judge Roy Pievi presiding as the officer’s former acquaintance cites potential bias.
