NATO Halves Canada’s Euro force cuts NATO role
Ottawa reports drastic military cutbacks led by Defence Minister Len Cadieux with a 50 percent NATO contribution reduction and an end to Canada’s nuclear role in Europe after January 1972. Troop levels in West Germany to drop about half, from near 10,000 to roughly 2,800 ground troops and 60 jets, with a phased interim force to be reconfigured post 1972. The plan trims about 70 million dollars from the NATO budget and shifts the air force to conventional roles.

Park Commission chooses Campa chair and Orozco vice chair
Union City Park and Recreation Commission elected Marcelino Campa as chairman and Raul Orozco as vice chairman for the coming year, replacing Fred Castro and William Farrey whose terms expired. The commission also reviewed a diagrammatic analysis of Alvarado Park and sent it to the city council for approval. Opposition leader Robert Stanfield condemned Desileux's announcement as very unsatisfactory, warning cutbacks threaten Canada's NATO commitment to a token level.
