Finance Committee Votes To Repeal Business Subsidy

The Senate Finance Committee voted to repeal the 7 percent investment tax credit, a $3.4 billion annual subsidy to business. Leadership planned to keep repeal tied to tax reform, with Mansfield blocking action until reform proceeds. Lang warned against delay hurting the economy. Byrd and Harris dissented. The credit lets firms deduct 7 of each 100 spent on expansion from taxable income, a measure aimed at curbing inflation and aiding recovery.
