District approves rock concert for Weekes Park
Hayward area recreation district directors voted 3 to 1 to authorize a Saturday rock concert at Weekes Park with conditions. An organized sponsor must run the event and the hours are limited to 3 to 6 pm. The decision followed a special meeting prompted by a 108-resident petition to cancel and close the park.

Ohlone to host four day faculty orientation conference
Ohlone College in Fremont holds a four day orientation themed Teaching in the Community College starting Monday September 16. Reconsideration urged on health plan by Alameda supervisor
Alameda County Supervisor Joseph Hart urged the Board of Supervisors to reconsider its disengagement from operating health services. The board accepted a study by Griffin-Hagen-Kroeger Inc. favoring centralized administration with decentralized public health, proposing hospital consolidations into community status and evaluating county environmental and consumer services for a new coordinating agency. A Nov. 23 agenda item will restudy the matter, with a plan to fund a comprehensive health planning council and update election equipment to reduce tally errors.
