Dispute threatens county share of crime fight funds

Alameda County faces a clash over federal crime-fighting funds as eight cities approve a joint powers agreement differing from the county board of supervisors plan. The dispute centers on the size of the public member panel for the Alameda County Criminal Justice Planning Board, with the cities proposing 3 to 5 members and the county seeking at least three public members. Union City Mayor Henry Franco warns groups favoring larger boards could destabilize meetings, citing interest from organizations like MAPA and American GI Forum. Seven cities and the county must sign a joint powers agreement by December 1 or lose funding.
