Wine grape harvest underway at Fremont's Weibel Winery
In Fremont the Weibel Winery on Mission Boulevard starts the annual harvest of white, green, red and blue grape clusters. The operation includes crushing and fermenting to produce more than 1.5 million gallons of wine and champagne. Pinot varieties are a local specialty, with three to four years aging under expert supervision by the Weibel family. The winery traces to 1865 Leland Stanford site and remains family-run despite corporate pressure.
