Cambodian lawmaking reform shocks deputies
Cambodian government moves to strip the National Assembly of lawmaking power and orders it to draft a new constitution. The plan, aimed mainly at the Assembly, drew sharp opposition from deputies including In Tam and sparked fears of an unchecked executive as Lon Nol and advisers favored dissolving the Assembly or creating a military war cabinet. Senate and lower house leaders planned a joint Sunday session as cabinet decisions culminated in a late Saturday action.
