Berkeley Boards Pass Lease for Hearst Strip to BART
The Bay Area Rapid Transit District approved a five to two motion to negotiate a lease of the six block Hearst Strip in Berkeley valued at about one dollar per year. The deal ends hours of debate with a split board vote as supporters credit undergrounding funds and city needs while opponents warn against giving away land for a campaign issue.
