Record-breaking chess event crowns Karpov in Milan tournament
World champion Anatoly Karpov won a combined round-robin and match-play event in Milan Italy Aug 20 to Sept 19. The top four from the round robin advanced to semi finals, with the two finalists contesting a six game final to determine first and second place. Karpov secured victory after a single win in the final six games against Portisch.
