Copper output declines as Chile faces costly nationalization
In Chile the government failed to deliver the hoped for cash from nationalized copper. 1970 production forecast at 575,000 tons, far below the almost one million ton goal. El Teniente and Chuquicamata see output drops amid worker strikes and mass emigration of engineers following the Marxist victory. President Allende negotiates wage limits while copper workers push for large pay increases.
