Peace rug presented to the United Nations by American Guild
Mrs. Mira Gearhart of Fremont, a lawyer, was among 145 women and five men who created a vast needle point peace rug for the United Nations. The work features the Tunisia coat of arms in a central row, with a rug showing all member countries surrounding the UN emblem. The project used over nine million stitches and 42,000 hours of labor.

Spain bids emotional farewell to Franco funeral at Valley of the Fallen
In Madrid tens of thousands gathered to mourn Generalissimo Francisco Franco. His casket was lowered into a granite vault at the Valley of the Fallen amid Falangist chants and national pageantry. King Juan Carlos, Vice President Rockefeller and other leaders attended as the elaborate burial concluded with a national anthem.
