Fremont hires Robert Wasserman 41 as police chief replacing the late John Fabbri. Wasserman comes from Brea where he led a 135 member force earning 27000 annually, and will oversee patrols and city safety while focusing on burglary prevention and community policing.
Fremont City Manager Don Driggs completed a 16 hour outside assessment center to pick Robert Wasserman as the new police chief after the death of Chief John Fabbri last June. The process included 8 candidates and was conducted by Justice Research Associates in Costa Mesa with observers from city hall and law enforcement.
Attorneys for Patricia Hearst move to examine the government’s bank robbery case materials. The report notes references to the newspaper heiress and her legal team seeking access to key evidence.
Workers press for dismissal of Agricultural Labor Relations Board administrator with a protest at Gov Edmund J Brown Jr office claiming labor rights abuses. Other items note Greenglass testimony challenges, a pre Thanksgiving blizzard toll rising then falling, VOA reports on CIA plots, and U S withdrawal of a political prisoners amnesty resolution.
Fremont teachers and the school superintendent dispute leafleting parents about school funding during conferences. The district cites on duty restrictions and legal opinions, while teachers defend constitutional free speech and urge parents to voice concerns to the board.

Charles Kennedy of Union City and Chris Towne of Dublin won a 160 competitor pizza eating contest at Chabot College sponsored by the Asian American Association. They finished two large Ninch pizzas in 21 minutes 41.4 seconds, the best time of the day as judges watched for the crust to be eaten. Water aided the effort in a noon session with later timed slots at 3 and 6 p.m.
A benefit for Save Our Paced communities features an eight high school jamboree at 7 38 p m today in the new Ohlone College gym with all Mission Valley Athletic League schools participating. Tickets are five dollars for adults and one dollar for students. The event follows the Stephen Epler Gym dedication and student commons opening at 7 15 a m. For details see Sports Page 17.
