Carter meets advisors amid transition in Plains
President-elect Jim Carter held lunch with supporters and discussed his new administration. Rusk said he would not take government work again. Carter planned a busy week including a church racial issues dispute, a second news conference, and a meeting with House and Senate leaders to chart the transition with Mondale. A noon news conference was set for 11 a.m. at the Southwest Georgia Experimental Station auditorium. The first post election meeting with Congress would be on a Lovejoy farm owned by Sen. Herman Talmadge with Rex Granum noting participants. The Plains Baptist Church faced a bitter debate over black membership with deacon Bruce Edwards urging changes and a vote due today. Carter was expected to back Edwards as minister.
