Soliah seeks two defense attorneys at public expense
Steven Soliah asked U S District Court for two attorneys to defend him on federal bank robbery and murder charges. Judge Wilkins delayed ruling while San Francisco attorney Sheldon Otis was appointed. The indictment accuses Soliah of aiding a $15,000 Sacramento bank robbery on April 21 in which Myra Opsah, 42, was killed. Authorities say others, including a woman shouting orders, may also be involved. Miss Hearst linked to a car used in the robbery. Soliah indicated readiness to plead after the number of lawyers is decided. Otis noted another attorney, Steffan Imboff, who helped in the Wounded Knee case, might join. Prosecutors urged one attorney at taxpayer expense. Soliah, living with Hearst at the time of capture, stood with federal agents in court and answered yes when asked if he wanted two attorneys. Hearst acknowledged romantic involvement in a jail tape.
