Soviets buy more U S corn boosting 1975 grain shipments
The Soviet Union bought another 1 million metric tons of U S corn, lifting total purchases this year to about 13.1 million tons since the moratorium was lifted after an agreement on long range grain trade. The move follows earlier buys totaling about 2.7 million tons since the moratorium ended, with economists predicting only a modest rise in retail food prices through 1976. The push came amid a year marked by a drop from an expected 215 million to about 160 million tons in Soviet grain output. In Fremont, Mark Landes, 20, won a table golf tournament and a 0 speed bicycle at the Poto Table Golf Center. Runners up were John Cantrell and Norm Jensen.
