Alioto turns down Look settlement in libel suit
San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto rejected Look Magazine s 12.5 million libel suit settlement offer after a mobbed re election victory. He called the proposal to print retractions and pay money ludicrous while saying the outcome of his race would not affect damages. A retrial in U S District Court is planned.
