FBI and a federal grand jury probe a crime ring using six fast horses raced under slower thoroughbreds. Special investigator Paul Berube testified 14 of 41 races at a dozen tracks from November 1970 to March 1972 yielded profits for bettors. He said organized crime involvement is likely and noted the six ringers raced at Hazel Park to Narragansett Park and other venues, with owners and trainers posing as legitimate handlers.
