Canons under review in Douglas ethics probe
The American Bar Association referred a question to its ethics committee on whether Justice William O. Douglas violated judicial canons by accepting pay from the Albert Parvin Foundation, which gains income from gambling. Senator Williams urged an investigation into Douglas's ties, salary, and the foundation’s gambling connections. The ABA will consider the matter with the U S Courts Judicial Conference weighing how judges may accept fees and other ethics questions arising from the Fortas and Douglas cases.
