The Weather Service notes extreme heat drove record demand as Pacific Gas and Electric Co says Wednesday’s consumption exceeded 12 million kilowatts, triggering full capacity use of transmission lines from the Pacific Northwest to meet the load.
President Ford affirmed the United States will remain the ultimate guarantor of Israel's freedom while urging Israel to relinquish conquered Arab territory for peace. He stressed no erosion in American-Israeli friendship and outlined plans to aid emigration from the Soviet Union, including a White House event on ethnic identity.
