Two young Indian engineers from Banaras Hindu University helped in the Synshine silver mine disaster by drafting three dimensional maps of underground passages. Chhote Lal and C P Mishra, with wives, prepared detailed plans reading one inch to 200 feet to guide ventilation and route miners. They produced multiple map variants to aid crews navigating the 4,800 foot level and 2,000 foot upper passages where a fire trapped 47 miners.

Democrats face a closed caucus as House support lagged, with votes delayed until Nixon returns from Kremlin talks May 22.
