Alameda County weighs mental health cash crunch
A county board hearing on the mental health budget ends with a demand for a precise eight month projection and asks for the cause of the deficit. Dr. James Malcolm warns the shortfall, now around $410,000, could prompt cuts in inpatient beds and contract services if not reduced. County officials consider state funding gaps, potential legal action, and further budget reviews as they seek to preserve essential crisis services.
