Swallows Return to Capistrano For Feast Day Arrival

San Juan Capistrano marked the Feast Day of St. Joseph as birds arrive to nest at the old Spanish mission. About 12 to 14 scout swallows reached the mission last week as some 75,000 tourists gather to hear the bells between 7 and 8 am. Officials note the swallows’ route from Argentina, with reports tracking their progress since January 28. President Ford sent bicentennial greetings highlighting America's diverse heritage and the enduring legend linked to the birds.
