California Oil Depletion Allowance Under Fire in Senate
A controversial oil depletion allowance bill faces its first Senate committee test amid support to repeal the deduction for most oil producers. The amended measure would cap the 22 percent depletion deduction, aiming to save about 41 million dollars yearly, while excluding small producers on a sliding scale. Separately, bills to end California milk price setting move toward Senate floor, backed by consumer groups and opposed by Gov Brown, with debate over removing minimum price controls.

Police discount break-ins link unfounded
Fremont police stated there is no connection between a break-in last month at the Fremont Unified School District offices and three night openings of another office file cabinet. Three junior high boys were arrested for the Bradl office break-in, where keys were taken and later found in an attic. The unlocked Mayo records involved expenditures for the Regional Occupation Program, overseen by Staye, not district finances. District Attorney investigators had previously examined Mayo’s files. The intruders admitted entering the cabin to smoke marijuana but denied forcing the door latch. The younger boys were released to their parents after admonition. Evans was told to go to the district attorney to file a complaint.
