Fremont Planning Commissioners debated three alignments for Paseo Padre Parkway through the Pacific Cement and Aggregate quarry pits between Peralta and Thornton. They granted 30 day extensions to Silva Brothers and Artold Bellini hillside quarries for preliminary and 90 day final plans, and approved a field trip to inspect a proposed Warm Springs quarry while considering extending quarrying to supply fill for parkway construction.

A missionary from Guadalajara Mexico will speak tomorrow at the Assemblies of God Church Newark 5970 Thorn Avenue. Miss Rye previously ministered in Jamaica British West Indies and rode a motorcycle to reach interior areas. She addressed many conventions including the Women’s Missionary Council Day in Sacramento.

Army Set Ricardo Ortegon Dies in Vietnam Obituary
A Requiem Mass for Army private Ricardo J. Ortegon, 18, killed in action in Vietnam on March 6, will be offered today at St. Leonard's Church in Premont at 11:15 AM. He was the son of Mrs. Virginia D. Ortegon and the late Edward Ortegon of Fremont, and brother of Edward, Jerry, Eliseo, John, and Robert Ortegon of Fremont, Alphonso Ortegon of Texas, Gloria Garza of San Francisco, and Minnie Benjamin of Scotland. A native of Oakland, he lived in Fremont 13 years and entered the Army 13 months ago. Burial will be at Irvington Memorial Park, Fremont.

Trustees Approve New Pact For Schilling School Addition
Newark Unified School District trustees approved a 1,936,700 contract with Armand and Smithy Construction of San Jose for a 15,000 square foot net addition to Schilling School. The six to nine month project features a cloverleaf design with movable walls to resize classrooms on short notice. The vote was unanimous in an adjourned meeting.

Fast Action Saves The Mail In Fremont Mission
Mail carrier Homer Nichols, a seven year veteran, saved 2000 pieces of Irvington District mail after his three wheel delivery cart caught fire at 9 45 am. He stopped at Mission Shopping Center and, despite flames, pulled packages from the rear and warned others as gasoline leaked into a hot exhaust pipe. A few pieces were burned.

Three USS Neptune crewmen were injured when their 1960 Falcon veered off the Nimitz Freeway south of Thornton Avenue in Fremont, flipped on an embankment, and sent them to Washington Hospital then Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland for treatment. Driver Robert L. Wood, James B. Harold, and James W. Crawford, ages 20, 21, and 46, were identified by the California Highway Patrol.
