Transit funding bill okayed by state commission

The MTC plan seeks to extend a half cent sales tax for BART and gives MIC authority to allocate funds starting July 1, 1579. It would grant BART 65 percent of the tax, with 35 percent split among BART AC Transit and San Francisco Muni, and authorizes BART to issue 415 million in revenue bonds to ease cash flow. The proposal omits a one time auto registration tax and fare hikes planned for 1960, and envisions MTC staff or outside consultants handling implementation.
