The California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board ruled Tuesday that interviewers for market research firms are ineligible for unemployment compensation. It said these workers are independent contractors and not subject to employer contributions to the state job fund. The decision follows an appeal by Southern California Interviewing Service of Los Angeles, which argued the state cannot require it to contribute for its workers.
