Meo tribesmen flee Laos mountains amid Communist push
UPI reports the Meo people in northern Laos are being driven from their mountain homeland by a sustained Communist offensive. Since 1968 the Meo, aided by U.S. support, have migrated toward refugee bases as Long Cheng and surrounding bases face attacks. The mass exodus has displaced 100,000 or more, with ongoing civilian casualties and uncertain futures for the tribe as they adapt to lower elevations and new farming practices amid U.S. aid efforts.
